"In the early 1990s, when Gujarat lacked the infrastructure for advanced cardiac surgery, we didn't wait for it — we built it."
— Dr. Anil R. Jain
For more than three decades, Dr. Anil Jain has dedicated his life to one mission — to restore failing hearts and give patients a second chance at life. A leading cardiac surgeon, he has performed tens of thousands of complex heart operations while consistently accepting patients considered too high-risk or inoperable elsewhere.
His work extends far beyond conventional cardiac surgery. Dr. Jain has pioneered the surgical treatment of ischemic heart failure in India through coronary artery bypass surgery combined with surgical ventricular restoration and advanced mitral valve repair. He has been among the country’s foremost advocates of repairing the failing heart rather than replacing it whenever possible, allowing thousands of patients to avoid transplantation and regain productive, fulfilling lives.
Innovation has remained central to his career. He has introduced numerous surgical techniques and technologies, participated in landmark international clinical trials, contributed to the development of next-generation polymer heart valves, and helped advance the science of cardiac surgery through research, teaching, and continuous medical education.
Equally significant has been his role as an institution builder. From helping establish Gujarat’s early cardiac surgery programs to creating Sterling Hospital and ultimately founding Epic Hospital, Dr. Jain has believed that great medicine requires great institutions. His vision has always been to build hospitals where patients receive compassionate care, doctors are respected, innovation is encouraged, and excellence becomes a culture rather than an exception.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Jain has devoted countless weekends to rural cardiac camps, public education, physician training, and charitable treatment for patients unable to afford surgery. His work has touched hundreds of thousands of lives through clinical care, education, and service.
His philosophy remains simple: restore whenever possible, innovate relentlessly, teach generously, and always place the patient first. Every operation is not merely a procedure — it is an opportunity to restore hope, dignity, and life.
